When you go to the clinic and ask for PrEP, your health provider will first counsel you about your HIV status. If you are negative, they will test you for HIV. If you’re positive, they will refer you to start or maintain HIV treatment. If you are still negative after your test, only then you will then be able to start PrEP. The clinic will do other tests and ask other questions before they put you on PrEP.
