How to set boundaries, with my partner?

Setting boundaries with your partner is an important part of any healthy relationship. Before you have sex with someone or before you get into a relationship it’s important that you make your boundaries clear.

Tips on how to set boundaries with your partner:

  1. Know what you are and are not comfortable with in your relationship.
  2. Communicate your boundaries clearly and assertively to your partner. Use “I” statements to express your feelings and needs. Be clear about what you are not comfortable with.
  3. Consistency is key when it comes to setting and maintaining boundaries.
  4. Just as you have boundaries, your partner may have their own as well. Respect their boundaries.
  5. If you are having difficulty setting boundaries with your partner or feel that your boundaries are not being respected. You may need to speak a therapist, counselor, or trusted friend or family member.

Remember that setting and maintaining boundaries is an ongoing process. With open and honest communication and mutual respect, you and your partner can create a healthy relationship.
