Responsibilities of being a young parent

Becoming a young parent comes with many challenges and responsibilities, check out some of these responsibilities that you may not be aware of as a young parent.

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW?
  1. Making sure that your child’s needs are met by providing them with basic needs such as food, shelter, and clothing.
  2. Your child must be protected. They need to grow up in a safe environment so they can develop healthily.
  3. Education, every child has the right to an education.  You will need to provide your child with educational opportunities.
  4. You and your partner will need to work to maintain financial stability to provide for your child or apply for the government grant
  5. You will need to be there for your child, especially for the first year as your child will need a lot of attention and care

Remember, babies need all the care and support they need. Check out this guide on good parenting.

CHANGES TO YOUR LIFE

You will need to make a few adjustments to your life to take care of your child.

  1. Your child will become your number one priority. You may have to change your lifestyle for example you may not have much time for friends or going out.
  2. You will need to plan your days carefully. You will now have the responsibilities of a parent and you need to need your deadlines for school or career.
  3. Spending habits will need to change, as you will need to provide for your child first
  4. Your social life may change, you may even lose some of your friends because you won’t have as much time as you used to.
